What Makes Us Different?

All of the doctors in this practice are Board Certified or Board Eligible in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology

All of the doctors at Florida Electrophysiology Associates are triple Board Certified or eligible for such.  Many doctors call themselves "electrophysiologists".  However, electrophysiology has a specific clinical fellowship (a period of advanced training after residency).  In order to enter this fellowship, the physician needs to have completed medical school, an internal medicine internship, an internal medicine residency, and a cardiology fellowship.  An electrophysiology fellowship today generally requires two additional years of training.  Thus, in order to become an electrophysiologist, someone needs four years of college, four years of medical school, a year of internship, two years of internal medicine residency, two or three years of cardiology fellowship and then an additional two years of electrophysiology fellowship (a total of 16 years of advanced education after high school).  Electrophysiologists need to site for three separate specialty board examinations (internal medicine, cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology).  Only about 75 new electrophysiologists are certified yearly in the United States so there are only a small number of these highly specialized physicians around.

At Florida Electrophysiology Associates, all of our doctors are fully trained in all aspects of modern electrophysiology including complex ablation techniques and skin-to-skin pacemaker and defibrillator implantation surgery.  To learn more about each of our physicians click on the above links.

Our Doctors Have Experience Where It Counts

The three most important things to look for in real estate are location, location, location.....  In electrophysiology it's volume, volume, volume!  You wouldn't take your car to a mechanic who has only worked on a couple of engines.  The same things true with your heart.  Florida Electrophysiology Associates is the busiest electrophysiology group in South Florida.  On a per-physician basis, our case volume is the highest in the state of Florida.  Nationally, we exceed 95% of other electrophysiologists in our overall case volume.  Because our case volume is so high, we can generally rapidly determine a patients diagnosis and select the appropriate treatment.  In other EPS labs a relatively simple catheter ablation can take up to six hours.  Our average case time at JFK Medical Center (one of our main hospitals) last year was 74 minutes.  This is the quickest average case time for EPS/ablation procedures in the entire Columbia/HCA national network.  Quick case times translate into more comfortable patients and a generally lower procedure-related complication rate.  Despite our expedience, our success rate remains high.  For example with SVT ablations our success rate for permanent lifelong cure of the patient's rhythm problem exceeds 95%.  One question a patient should always ask of their doctor's is what the doctors case volume is and how it compares to other doctors (this is true in essentially every field of medicine - not just electrophysiology). In our view electrophysiologists should have a  minimum monthly SVT ablation volume exceeding 20 ablations/month. We also have significant clinical experience with implantable devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.  For example, Dr. Rankovic's implantation volume for cardiac resynchronization defibrillators (an advanced defibrillator that can both prolong life and help congestive heart failure) was the highest in the entire state of Florida.  We know however that the care of our patients is the ultimate test of any doctor or group and we  like to think that we would not be this busy if we did not always try our best to help our patients.  Having a large amount of previous clinical experience is one asset allowing us to help all of our patients.
