The "Miracle" trial of CHF has been completed and was published on 6/13/02 in the New England Journal of Medicine.  This trial looked at implantation of a combination biventricular pacemaker/defibrillator in patients with heart failure and compared how they fared next to controls.  Measures of almost all parameters including exercise tolerance, symptoms of CHF and hospitalizations showed a dramatic and, or equal importance, a persistent improvement in patients who had biventricular pacing turned on.  To read this scientific publication yourself click here.
